I have a question about forgiveness.
The grace message is about God forgiving all of out sin: past, present, and future..at the cross. As a result, we don't have to ask God to forgive us because He already has.
But what about this passage:
Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven[. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.
Thanks for you help

Wanda,
Great question. You are correct about no longer needing to confess all your sins to God. he took them all away. Let's look at the context of this verse...I want to concentrate on the confession/forgiveness part because that's the part you are asking about.
"Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed."
Who are we confessing to? Each other. not God. If you have hurt someone or they have hurt you what is the first step towards healing the relationship (and your bitterness, etc)?? Confessing your wrong against that person.
make sense? |
